The toybag book to erotic knifeplay by Miranda Austin & Sam Atwood is a pleasant little read (took me about 1/2 hour). It’s short, it’s sweet and probably highlights everything you are going to need to know. I’ll outline it briefly below.
It’s split up into the following sections:
Introduction into erotic knifeplay – What do people get out of this type of play, what it is, what it isn’t.
Basic terminology used in this type of activity – Know your knife
What you need to get started - Basic safety and common sense rules.
The sensation play aspect of it – How you can use the knife to create different sensations. Alternative items that can be used in a similar fashion are suggested here.
The theatrics you can use in employing your knife in a play scene – Fun & games you can employ when doing this type of play. Rules on how to play rough in a safe fashion (this can be done!).
Clothes cutting – Lots of practical tips here, this may seem like a hot idea but you need to be practical and aware of the limitations of the knife as well as the obstacles the clothes you are cutting may throw up.
What to look for in a knife and where you can buy one - self explanitory.
There are three appendices that cover first aid for cuts/wounds as well as a section on knife resources.
Overall I found it a nice quick little read with a few interesting nuggets of information. Much of it is common sense but it’s a handy little resource for those who are inclined to look into this type of play.
